This is Part Five in a five part series diving into Clean Graffiti in the Queen City. Clean Graffiti is a service that #thesavageway offers; it is a unique, green form of advertising available since 2012. With several clients in the books, it is time to reflect on the practice. This piece is about incorporating community events with Clean Graffiti.
“Take me out to the ball game,” Charlotteans can now yell this nostalgic summertime phrase from their Uptown offices and actually walk to an afternoon baseball game. The Charlotte Knights kicked off their Uptown residency on April 11 for the season home opener at BB&T Ballpark. This momentous occasion is huge for the Charlotte sports community and the city is buzzing with excitement as can be seen when individual tickets went on sale in March.

In a continuing effort to show support to the Charlotte community as well as showcase innovative, green thinking, OrthoCarolina, Official Team Physicians of the Charlotte Knights, activated a Clean Graffiti Campaign to help launch the inaugural season.

Clean Graffiti is an eco-friendly and green form of advertising. These branded, positive messages are strategically placed on dirty sidewalks and a clean message remains. Not only is this an innovative and creative way to get a business’ marketing initiatives out to the public in a place that you typically would not be able to have a logo or message, but there is no use of any harmful chemicals or sprays – It is just water!
In collaboration with the OrthoCarolina team, #thesavageway created branded messages and then strategically placed the Clean Graffiti spots around the BB&T Ballpark and neighboring streets advertising the Knights new home in the QC.

Once again, OrthoCarolina was able to utilize an innovative and eco-friendly advertising medium to celebrate a momentous occasion in the Charlotte community. Not only did Clean Graffiti offer a green, sign alternative, it also provided “talkability,” which is something that a marketer is always seeking. Utilizing a community supported event, like the opening of the Knights new stadium, with an advertising initiative like Clean Graffiti was the perfect tie in for forward-thinking OrthoCarolina.
Clean Message. Dirty Sidewalk.

This weekend is no exception. The NoDa Grand Prix takes place on Sunday, May 4 in the heart of our beloved neighborhood.

The NoDa Grand Prix, powered by OrthoCarolina, is in its 3rd year and it brings a day full of FREE entertainment for the entire family. This is Part Three in a five part series diving into Clean Graffiti in the Queen City. Clean Graffiti is a service that #thesavageway offers; it is a unique, green form of advertising available since 2012. With several clients in the books, it is time to reflect on the practice. This piece is about Social Media Usage of Clean Graffiti.
In this day in age, Social Media is as common as drinking a glass of water or showing up for work. As a business, if you are not utilizing social media in all of its forms (that fit your business), you are missing out on a huge marketing opportunity. In fact, according to the Social Media Examiner, “Increased exposure is the top benefit of social media marketing: A significant 89% of marketers stated that increased exposure was the number-one benefit of social media marketing.”
But what do you do to make your business stand out on social media when the market is flooded with competitors? One way that #thesavageway has found to aid in market differentiation is through Clean Graffiti.

Charlotte companies have been using #thesavageway’s Clean Graffiti throughout the city to attract attention to their brands through natural, alternative media. Be it event driven (NODAWEEN), Running Routes (NODA BREWING RUN CLUB) or just Brand Awareness (ORTHOCAROLINA), Clean Graffiti has lead to an increased use on social media. By including the “@” sign or “#” in the body of the message, it signifies to the public to engage on social media.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus saw a lot of “firsts” in 2013; the inaugural collegiate football season opened, the first no-waste stadium in the south was created at Jerry Richardson Stadium, and eco-friendly advertising, Clean Graffiti, was utilized on campus.
Clean Graffiti is an eco-friendly and green form of advertising. These positive messages are placed on dirty sidewalks and a clean message remains. Local marketing company #thesavageway is the creative force behind this innovative branding initiative.
OrthoCarolina, the Official Team Physicians of the Charlotte 49ers, strategically placed Clean Graffiti messages around campus sidewalks and neighborhood streets touting the Inaugural Football Season.

UNCC 49ers and OrthoCarolina Clean Graffiti raise awareness of the partnership.
OrthoCarolina was able to find an innovative way to show their support for this historic moment in campus history. As the Official Team Physicians they worked closely with the 49er Athletic Department. By executing Clean Graffiti on walking and running paths around campus, OrthoCarolina was able to bring awareness not only to the football season but to their brand.

As public relations students, we often talk about our first internships. Some students who held positions with large marketing and public relations firms complained of never being taken seriously or just making coffee runs. Others proclaimed their boredom; filing and doing other tedious tasks for the businesses they worked for. One thing everyone had in common was their fear of not knowing what to expect. Sure, we’re studying PR at UNC Charlotte, but this is our first encounter with the actual PR world and it seems terrifying.
Luckily we were given the opportunity to intern with #thesavageway, a small company based in eclectic NoDa, where our hands literally touched everything. The founder, Torrie Savage, wanted to teach us, not supervise us. We’re INTERNS! We’re here to learn and ask questions and make mistakes and just simply be students of the PR world – #thesavageway understands that.
Everyday we do something different. Sometimes we work for hours, researching and typing. Other days we’re traveling through Charlotte, meeting with clients and brainstorming ideas. We had the chance to interact with several #thesavageway clients including Stache House, Papi Queso Food Truck, Librettos Pizzeria, OrthoCarolina, NoDa Brewing Company and NoDa Brewing Run Club and as well as partners Social Dress Shop, Pink Toast Ink, Yelp Charlotte and StrikeCity. At such a young age, we never thought we would be shaking hands with some of the most inspirational business owners in Charlotte.
This internship has been a dream come true. We were able to be silly with some great ladies and also gain real world experience. Not to mention, we’ve eaten some of the best food in Charlotte while being with #thesavageway team…
So here’s to going out into the real world! It might not be so scary after all.
Sincerely,
Autumn & Dom
