Walking for a Cause: Walk A Mile Returns to NoDa

Walking for a Cause: Walk A Mile Returns to NoDa

It’s that time of year again – hundreds of men, high heels, cold beer and a good cause. The 3rd Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Charlotte charity walk for Safe Alliance is taking place on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 9am.

Walking a mile in high heels is more than just a fashion statement. For the participants of this charity walk, it is about men raising awareness to stop gender violence and rape.

To quote Charlotte’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® flyer, “In spirit of the old saying “you can’t understand someone’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes,” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® literally asks men to walk a mile in women’s high heeled shoes. The event is a playful and fun opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes and effects of sexualized violence.”

The 2014 event saw 130 walkers and raised over $27,000 for Safe Alliance! It was an incredible community event!

As in year’s past, the event will take place at NoDa Brewing Company at their location on North Davidson Street. Men and women are invited to walk an actual mile in heels, or just come out and show support.

All proceeds from the 2015 walk will directly benefit Safe Alliance. Cost is $25 for Men and $10 for Ladies. Day-of Registration opens at 9am and all participants will take the streets beginning at 10am. The route takes the men (and women) left out of NoDa Brewing, up North Davidson Street to Heist Brewery. Participants will then cross the street and head back down North Davidson toward the brewery – a mile in all!

Noda Brewing Company hosts the official after-party so stick around and congratulate the participants for walking/running in those heels and relax with a nice beverage. The awards ceremony is definitely worth staying around for!

Dentistry Has Been Reimagined at Pearl.

Dentistry Has Been Reimagined at Pearl.

When we go about choosing our clients, we have a checklist of items we use in determining if it is a fit for us to work together. One of them simply being, do we believe in your concept? When a young entrepreneur approached us late last year to discuss marketing a dentist office, we were hesitant to say the least. A dentist office? When was the last time either of us even went to the dentist? But Dr. Jenny Gandhi sat us down and explained her vision. She passionately talked about her mission to change the way people perceived the dentist. She talked about her desire to make an uncomfortable experience not only pleasant but something that is relaxing. We began to believe in Dr. Jenny but more importantly, we began to believe in Pearl. Dentistry Reimagined.

Pearl. Dentistry Reimagined is a fresh take on the dental experience. Located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, Pearl. combines cutting edge technology with a modern, upscale environment at prices people can afford. Pearl. is focused on the client experience, which includes catering to every need, even before the patient knows it is a need.

Throughout this process we’ve learned so much about this industry and what it takes to run a successful dental practice. We’ve seen first-hand how Dr. Jenny interacts with her patients. We’ve watched her team grow and become connected to this city and their patients.

“Going to the dentist doesn’t have to be something you dread,” said Dr. Jenny. “Pampering our patients with a high end and fun experience lets them know that we are doing everything we can to take care of them. Our team strives to create a culture in the office that is friendly, laid back and positive to put patients at ease.”

On June 17, we held a VIP Viewing to showcase the beautiful Pearl. space in Uptown. We wanted to celebrate the fact that a new business is open in Charlotte and also invite the opportunity to talk to Dr. Jenny and really get to know her. From the red carpet and champagne to the delicious food from BLT Steakhouse and cold beer from NoDa Brewing Company, it truly was a success. We had a great turnout from the community.

Side Note: HUGE thank you to everyone that stopped by the event! We are lucky to live in such an amazing city with such supportive people. Everyone has such awesome projects going on and we will all continue to flourish by lifting each other up! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

#NoDaHangout is the perfect lunch break! #thesavageway

NoDa Brewing Company approached #thesavageway team a few months ago to assist them with the launch of an idea. An idea to keep them on the forefront of the craft beer industry. That idea became #NoDaHangout, a monthly series where passionate people discuss the ins and outs of making and consuming craft beer – all virtually.

Each month, NoDa’s Head Brewer, Chad Henderson, and a special guest gather on a Google+ Hangout On Air to talk about a particular topic. Topics vary based upon the guest of honor and what happens to be going on at the time. Past topics included the following:

NoDa has successfully sparked a conversation around all things craft beer. #thesavageway team assists with the social media side of things and fielding questions from the audience. Stay tuned to #NoDaHangout on Twitter & Instagram and ask your questions for Chad, NoDa Brewing & our guest speakers.

Growing #thesavageway

Growing #thesavageway

#thesavageway is a company built around creative solutions, thinking outside the box and overall positive thinking. We strive to work with clients, partners and interns who align with our vision in life. Recently, the opportunity presented itself for us to bring on a contract worker and add some additional woman-power around the office. We wanted you to meet her!

Everyone say HEY to Alana Allen!

Alana Allen joins #thesavageway!

Alana Allen joins #thesavageway!

Alana is creative, funny, kind and excited about all things Charlotte. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her yet, you need to! And when you DO meet her IRL (in real life), you’re sure to hear an amazingly “punny” joke or two.

We asked her a few questions.

Why did you want to join #thesavageway?
I absolutely love the brand, the concept and what you ladies are doing in marketing. More importantly, I love HOW you’re doing things. As a creative person, it is beyond refreshing to watch how you both approach a project and then put your own spin on it. #thesavageway does a great job of localizing creative efforts and expanding on a grass roots level.

As “creative queens,” #thesavageway is always coming up with different ideas. What creative energy do you bring to the table?
I thrive in creative environments. When there is opportunity to build on ideas, my mind will just race with creative content. Anyone that knows me knows that I love a good pun, play on words or a silly joke. But when it comes to branding and clients, I love coming up with new ways to do old things.

What is your role going to be at #thesavageway?
I will be an Account Executive working on a contract basis. However, I definitely see myself wearing many hats in the future. Being able to learn all aspects of the business and helping the team develop these creative solutions is so exciting to me!

Tell us about “The Ldy.”
Ha! My nickname is The Lady. It started years ago while in conversations with friends. I’m pretty awesome at a British accent and it just stuck.

Current obsession?
Viva Chicken. Seriously, I cannot get enough of those quinoa stuffed chicken avocados.

Where do you hang out?
You can always find me at a local, live concert, hanging around NoDa or hitting the pavement on the Greenway (I love to run).

Favorite Songs (that will need to be added to #thesavageway playlist)?

What do you get when you mix tattoos, live statues, cocktails, #thesavageway and a Charlotte institution? An entertaining behind-the-scenes look at the inaugural #TSWTakeover at the Mint Museum.

Mint Museum Uptown is hosting an exhibit that explores an art form we both have a huge admiration for – innovative artistic expression. The focus is on avant-garde jewelry, nail design and fashion and how all of these elements “distort the architecture of the body.” It’s a beautiful show that is sparking a conversation about art in popular culture.

We had the opportunity to attend the Mint Museum’s VIP Opening Night of Body Embellishment, on Thursday, April 9, 2015. The evening was the kickoff to this incredible art presentation featuring body augmentation & modification and a chance to rub shoulders with Charlotte’s who’s who in the art scene.

The Mint asked #thesavageway team to take over their social media accounts (including Twitter & Instagram) for the evening to help get the word out about this unique show. Not only did we have a blast, but we watched the Mint Museum accounts grow throughout the evening and took the social engagement to the next level.

#MyHeartBeats4U Campaign

#MyHeartBeats4U Campaign

#thesavageway team is a preferred vendor of Carolinas HealthCare System and we were brought on for the entire month of February to act as the promotional and street team presence for the #MyHeartBeats4U campaign, geared towards heart health awareness.

The Issue:
Heart disease is a big issue in America. In fact it is the number one killer of women and the leading cause of death for most men. The Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute of Carolinas HeathCare System works diligently year-round to bring awareness to this disease. During the month of February (heart health month), the issue is brought to the forefront and risk factors are identified and prevention methods are broadcasted even more.

Some of the heart disease risk factors include:

  • High blood pressure
  • High LDL cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Excessive alcohol use
  • Physical Inactivity
  • Poor diet
  • Obesity

#MyHeartBeats4U Campaign:
Since heart disease is such a large issue for Americans, Carolinas HealthCare System decided to institute a social media based campaign to gain exposure and communicate to the masses.

Using the hashtag #MyHeartBeats4U, community members are encouraged to answer the question, “Who does your heart beat for?” and then take a photograph and post to a favorite social media portal!

These pictures are then uploaded to the Carolinas HealthCare System website and rotated throughout the month. A variety of photos are also selected at random to appear on the digital EpiCentre billboards located at the corner of College St. & Trade St.

Events Around Town:
#thesavageway, along with Pink Toast Ink, were brought in to concept and create the photo booths that are used in correlation with our street team. Each week we venture out to various locations around the Queen City including the Duke Energy Building, 7th Street Market and Bank of America Plaza, all in the name of spreading heart health awareness!

Last week, Larry Sprinkle and the WCNC crew joined us to on the streets to further bring awareness to the campaign.

During the month, our team has been able to interact with citizens on the street, business owners, families and even the Carolinas HealthCare System executive staff. We were able to participate in the AIR – Aerial Fitness February Social event that featured healthy-food guru Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen. This was the perfect opportunity to educate about heart health awareness and showcase ways to combat the disease (exercise & healthy diet).

YMCA Takes on Sustainable Advertising

YMCA Takes on Sustainable Advertising

We have worked with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte on two Clean Graffiti campaigns within the past 6 months. They are true supporters of sustainability when it comes to advertising.

Corporate Social Responsibility
We love when companies put their money where their mouth is and actually practice Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Defined as a “Corporate initiative to assess and take responsibility for the company’s effects on the environment and impact on social welfare,” CSR is very important for companies these days.

When the YMCA chose to spend some of their marketing budget on Clean Graffiti, they in turn practiced CSR. Clean Graffiti is the process of cleaning a message onto a dirty sidewalk (it’s just water). They saw the benefits of using reverse graffiti to stand out from other outdoor advertising methods while being sustainable.

The first campaign the YMCA executed was on several of their campuses touting their “Stay & Play” initiative. The goal was to get YMCA members and passersby to realize that the YMCA offers dance, swimming, sports, tumbling and other programs beyond just a gym atmosphere. The participating campuses of the Greater Charlotte YMCA were the Johnston, Lake Norman and Stratford Richardson locations.

Recently, another opportunity arose for the YMCA to take on sustainable advertising, the BB&T Corporate Cup 5K & Half-Marathon.

“The Corporate Cup is in its 36th year and the Race Planning Committee saw an opportunity to spice up how we communicate with something truly innovative compared to our other marketing vehicles,” said Center City Marketing Director for the YMCA, Brittany Durkin. “We saw how Clean Graffiti created a buzz between everyone (in person and online) and we wanted to try it specifically with our race.”

Clean Graffiti messages were placed around the race route and popular running areas to help promote the upcoming March 7 race.

The best part of it all is that the YMCA has chosen to expand their CSR by returning to the spots and cleaning them away after the race. That’s what we call full circle, sustainable marketing!
