Now this is a Moss moment! We recently installed this gorgeous inset Moss Art piece at NOVEL River District by Crescent Communities. This is a new luxury apartment community located near the Catawba River in Charlotte, NC (and it’s an awesome space). From design to installation, The Savage Way team handled every aspect of this piece. There is something about an inset Moss Art installation that feels extra special.
We worked hand in hand with our clients BB+M Architecture and PMC Commercial Interiors, Inc in creating the perfect Moss Art installation for this nook in the lobby. We created a free-flowing green moss wall to complement the nature vibes of this luxury apartment community. Our team expertly installed this massive wall feature – and we are so proud! Between the preserved moss, the wood elements and the whimsical animal wallpaper and artwork, @novelriverdistrict nails the biophilic design.
Biophilic Design blends someone’s innate attraction to nature and living things into architecture and interior design. Many modern workspaces seek to integrate biophilic design strategies and the nature-forward approach into their design plans for a variety of reasons; improving employees’ quality of life, meeting sustainability goals and increasing productivity and creativity.
The theme of Novel River District is “Experience Life Wildly Tamed.” What a fitting description of this nature-in-mind space. We love seeing real preserved moss being used in interior design. Being able to take a mood board and custom design something to perfectly complement the vibe of a space is the stuff of our dreams. We have another Faux Greenery project to share. We worked with the folks at Collet & Associates and Warco Construction to bring you this gorgeous Faux Greenery wall at the Collet Capital location in Midtown, Charlotte, NC. This is 61 sqft of lush faux plants next to a wood slat wall in their common area. Since our typical preserved Moss Art was not the desired end aesthetic goal, we were able to offer this alternative solution to a full green wall moment.
We love the use of Faux Foliage panels to bring even more elements of biophilic design into the space. Our faux greenery product is made from plastic plants that are A-Class fire-rated and UV protected, that means you get all of the visual benefits of a ‘living plant wall’ without the need for natural light, a maintenance schedule or drainage. The use of greenery in any space brings such an element of grounding and joy to the people that work there. We love how the mixture of wood elements, greenery and calming blue paint cohesively work together to create a modern workspace that is enviable. The more that we work with these faux greenery materials, the more we appreciate how plants (even when they are artificial) can elevate and change the energy of a space.
This particular project is showcasing how our Faux Greenery walls can look next to sleek millwork panels…and it is beyond gorgeous. However, it is also fun to note that a square or rectangle shape is not the only moment we can create. More biophilic design elements can come to life in the form of planters, hanging plants from the ceiling, etc. We have a ton of both fire-rated and non-fire-rated options to suit your style (and budget). PARA CLT is a Charlotte hotspot known for great food, cocktails and gorgeous atmosphere. The owners wanted to bring a different experience to the Queen City and it absolutely gives Miami, New York or Las Vegas vibes. Para is short for ‘imparable’ which means unstoppable and that is what this restaurant is, it’s shaking up the game. They embraced bringing plants and art into their space from local creatives (aka us – The Savage Way) from the onset of their launch. Originally, we created a 12′ w x 8.5′ h gorgeous preserved Fern Wall with the PARA logo centered in gold to set the tone for the dining experience – lush, unexpected, unique. It even garnered a celebrity sighting or two.
The co-owners of PARA are always ones to keep people on their toes and it was time to do something fresh and new for the space. We were elated to be asked again to help bring some natural beauty into PARA. The restaurant group owners asked our team to create a piece that would reflect how we are all feeling about these wild times, and all are proud to showcase it. It’s a preserved reindeer moss piece called: Self Reflection: You are entirely up to you.

Look at yourself. Like truly stop and take a look in the mirror. Are you showing up daily how you want to? Are you doing your best? Are you using your time wisely? Are you taking care of your health? What in your life is holding you back? How can you be more present for others? What relationships can go deeper? These are the questions you need to answer to be able to better your circumstances. And the beautiful reality is that you get to decide.
You get to choose or choose again and again and again until the change that you dreamed of is your reality. You are entirely up to you. And as a collective, if we all look inward to better ourselves, then we can show up for others in such an authentic and beautiful way. This life will just get better and better the more self reflection we do.

NoDa Canteen is now open at Camp North End (1824 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206). This tropical haven is the perfect addition to the area (and a mile from our studio!!). Canteen offers a gorgeous space that co-founders Scott Lindsley & Joey Hewell designed themselves to resemble both their other location, NoDa Company Store, and the jungle vibes of Bali, Roatán.
Torrie and I have known Scott & Joey for what seems like years now. Back when we did social media, we managed the NoDa Neighborhood Instagram and we able to feature all of the great work these two humans do for our city – Farmers Markets, opening the NoDa Company Store, Free Food Sundays and now NoDa Canteen! When they called and wanted a green wall we knew exactly what to make. Our lead Moss Artist, Ashley Schewzyk, put so much love and attention on this beauty.
Our green art is part of a floating wall, 15′ wide x 5 ‘h, flanked by gorgeous coral paint. We are OBSESSED with how this piece turned out. The lush ferns, foliage, mosses, mushrooms – all preserved mind you – are simply stunning. Check out this awesome reel from opening night.

If you live in Charlotte, NC, then you’ve certainly seen the hot new restaurant with the jungle vibes making its way around the internet by now. This is Para and we had the honor of creating some really special moments of interior design with our Moss Art. One of the owners is Chet Desai and he has been a client and friend of The Savage Way for years now. When we first started this company (and when we were still doing social media and marketing work) we helped him open Stache House & Lounge in Southend. Well things have come full circle as we were able to help him on his latest restaurant venture, Para.
We created two standout green wall moments for this contemporary, modern style restaurant and bar. The desire was to feel like you were walking into a lush and luxurious establishment like you would in Miami or NYC – but right here in the Queen City. Para will deliver a globally influenced menu built from fresh, high-quality ingredients – a little something for everyone.
Now for the Green Walls…The Moss Art
The first is this 12’w x 8.5’h gorgeous fern, foliage and moss wall that showcases the Para logo in gold painted letters. Green walls made of moss and other preserved plants are ideal for clients who want the look and feel of a plant wall but do not want to be concerned with maintaining it or killing the plants. All of the plants that you see have gone through an extensive preservation process so there is no need for water, drainage, sunlight or a costly maintenance package. We love how this piece acts as a center piece for the restaurant.
The second moss installation we created was a green wall for the bar fronts on the opposite side of the building. In total it is over 90 sqft of coverage. Using sheet moss, mood moss and reindeer moss, all preserved, we created this dimensional, textural, plant look to help tie into the lux feel of the entire place.
We also created this custom Mood Moss channel that lives behind the banquette seating. Just another little nod to the beauty of nature and the care and effort that went into every nook and cranny of Para.
We are always honored to have repeat customers and to have a client that trusts us to help bring a vision on paper into real life. Cheers to grand openings (officially open 1/19/22), cheers to using mother nature in interior design and cheers to friends bringing their dreams to life.
