Rooted In Love is a 30 day plant-based cleanse designed by Lauren McAbee of Essential Thrive. #thesavageway
During the month of February, we are participating in an awesome program called Rooted in Love. This 30 day plant-based cleanse, designed by Lauren McAbee of Essential Thrive, is meant to rejuvenate your love of self and lead with a compassionate heart.
WHAT IS ROOTED IN LOVE:
– Plant-Based Diet (meaning vegan, whole foods)
– doTERRA Cleanse Protocol
– Daily Mantras paired with doTERRA essential oils
– Chakti Yoga (every Monday, Wednesday & Saturday)
Full disclosure, I (Paula) was a vegetarian for 8 years and in November of 2016 both Torrie & I went vegan – so this cleanse was not that big of a leap for us. However there are 23 people participating in this cleanse and they include all walks of life – vegetarians, meat eaters, junk food lovers, health enthusiasts and new plant-based eaters. It’s been awesome watching others discover the power of plants and just how good food can taste when you eat clean.
WHY ROOTED IN LOVE:
The goal is to fall madly in love with you – to appreciate exactly where you are right now – this body, this mind, this strength. When you can slow down and realize how incredibly lucky you are in this world, it is easy to show gratitude. Too often, we criticize ourselves and are too hard & rough with our egos. Rooted in Love is the perfect time to change all that. This 30 day cleanse uses essential oils to connect to our emotions, to create the space we need to heal those criticisms. It uses plants to heal our cells and allow the body to function exactly as it should. It uses exercise to build not only strength, but confidence in how the body moves.
It’s been going great and we are over a week into it now. Here are a few of the delicious meals and snacks we’ve been preparing using plants & creativity or that we’ve found at local vegan restaurants like Living Kitchen and Namastay Kitchen.

Make sure you follow along with @thesavageway on Instagram Stories (that’s where we post all of the cleanse yumminess). We will do a follow up blog at the end of the month to let you know how everything went. In the mean time, you can check out more info on Lauren & Essential Thrive by checking out her Instagram, Facebook or joining us for a Chakti Yoga class. If you’ve ever heard me or Torrie talk about this booty-shaking, hip-hop yoga class, then you know how amazing it is.
Side Note: If anyone is interested in learning more about this cleanse or how to take this leap into the plant kingdom, send us an email at [email protected]. We’d love to chat! Here’s to being Rooted in Love. Every. Single. Moment <3

As #thesavageway, we are blessed to have the opportunity to work with some amazing people and innovative business ideas. Our clients cross industries and company size (and that is exactly how we want it!) We love the variety working with clients on everything from sustainable media like our Clean Graffiti to social media training, brand consultation, copywriting, logo development, public relations, event management and more.
However, every once in a while we are given the opportunity to work with a business from the ground up and get our hands in everything. Most recently that business has been Cruise Carts.
THE CONCEPT
Cruise Carts is Charlotte’s newest transportation service and it is FREE for riders. The company offers a free, green & safe ride in and around the Queen City on an advertiser-sponsored golf cart.

“I saw a need in Charlotte for a sustainable transportation service,” said Owner Dustin Adams. “We offer a unique way for companies to not only practice social responsibility but to give back to their customers in a fun way!”
How are these brands giving back exactly? By wrapping a cart, that company is sponsoring a month of FREE rides to potential customers. Cruise Carts can be found cruising the Charlotte streets at popular areas (think Panthers Games, the EpiCentre, NC Music Factory, etc) so everyone walking by or riding in the cart is being exposed to that particular brand (as well as being given promo items). In addition, brands are giving back because each cart is not only 100% electric, but those harmful emissions left from motor vehicles are eliminated when using a Cruise Cart.
BIG PICTURE
There is something to be said for companies that constantly keep their consumers in the forefront of their mind. Seeing companies actively make the decision to think outside the box of traditional media AND practice sustainability is so rewarding for us.
We’ve seen these innovative thinkers with our Clean Graffiti service. Leaders like OrthoCarolina, MADabolic, and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte (just to name a few) have seen the benefit of using sustainable media. Now we have the chance to watch our client, Cruise Carts, take on this sustainable, outdoor media world as well!
HITTING THE STREETS
On New Years Eve 2014, Cruise Carts had their first contract with another Charlotte startup, Socialtopias. Socialtopias is a social networking app that allows users to discover new places, make plans with friends, and claim exclusive deals. During their NYE launch party, Cruise Carts acted as the VIP shuttle service to and from the several event locations happening around the city.

Socialtopias quickly embraced the free ride concept and saw the value of aligning with another cool, innovative company in the Queen City. In the coming months, Cruise Carts will have an official launch date and media event, so stay tuned for more details. In the mean time, follow them on social media to stay up-to-date on progress (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
We are elated for Dustin and the Cruise Carts team! They truly are leaving Charlotte a little bit happier with each FREE ride!

At #thesavageway, Yelp is an app that we use on a regular basis. Anytime we want to find the closest Thai restaurant or if the auto shop will be open at 8am, we check Yelp. In fact, it is a HUGE asset when travelling because we can rely on the local’s perspective on the best places to try!
What you probably didn’t realize about Yelp is that they also throw amazing parties throughout the year that incorporate a charity – Yelp Helps! Usually these parties are for Elite Yelpers (private events for those Yelpers that have reviewed a TON and meet the qualifications), but one glorious time per year, they throw a big bash for the public. This year it was the Summertime Soiree held at the Neighborhood Theatre in NoDa! And the best part is one of our clients, Green Teacher Network, was the official charity of the evening!

Green Teacher Network’s goal is advancing academics, environmental sustainability, and health through schoolyard gardens. They are working with a variety of organizations (like Friendship Gardens, The Health Department and 18+ more) in order to bridge the gap in communication between teachers and available garden resources. They are a big resource for teachers and garden volunteers both with online portals and interactive Quarterly Workshops.
Needless to say, when Nikki, Yelp Charlotte Community Manager, offered GTN the charity of choice position, we were BEYOND grateful! The opportunity to be in front of 500+ people and gain some awareness for what GTN is doing in the community was awesome.
The night was full of support for GTN, local restaurant samplings, beer, live music and live ART!
In total, the Yelp Summertime Soiree raised $1,224.00 for Green Teacher Network. It was an honor to have GTN involved and to be a part of this awesome community event. Way to go Nikki – keep on Yelping on!
