While The Savage Way is primarily focused on our service lines of Clean Graffiti and Moss Art, we also decided a while ago to have some creative fun and open a Moss Art Shop. We wanted to find a way to get some of the creative ideas out of our head and also offer some of our art and merchandise at a more affordable rate for residential clients and new art collectors.
A big part of what we enjoy is getting to infuse our philosophies into everything that we make. We created a few collections that achieve just that!
SEEK THE GOOD COLLECTION
If you’ve been around for a while, you know that “Seek the Good” has been a motto for a longtime. It reminds us that sure, it is always great to stay positive, but for us, it’s a constant reminder that we GET to do this. No matter what is going on with out business… putting out fires, growing pains, decision fatigue, navigating employees, beautiful new projects, etc… We remind ourselves to stop and laugh. WE GET TO DO THIS LIFE.
We work hard and have created something out of nothing. That is no small feat. Building a company is hard, but we are so grateful for the #SeekTheGood mentality.

Balance. It’s the one thing in life that we are all seeking. It’s a sense of peace when it comes to work, relationships, family and life. Balance is quintessential to happiness, especially when you own your own business.

#thesavageway has been in business for 2.5 years now and man how time flies! Owning a business is a highly stressful thing at times. Though rewarding, there are times when things are overwhelming. Thinking about your product, sales goals, PR plan, accounting, receipt tracking, client relations, bills, 5-year growth plan, and much, much more is a 24/7 job. There isn’t an IT department to call or HR when there is an issue. You are dealing with EVERY aspect of the company. It is extremely easy to become addicted to your work – putting in 14-hour days, running on fumes and drinking way too much caffeine (thanks to NoDa for having so many amazing coffee shops!).
As a result, every 6 months or so, #thesavageway team does a “Get Your Mind Right” Challenge to bring back the balance to our lives. We both (Torrie and Paula) make a conscious effort to take a few weeks to clear our minds, treat our bodies as we should, and in turn become more productive and happy.
Now what exactly does getting one’s mind right mean? Don’t worry we have a very scientific formula. 😉
Parameters of “Getting Your Mind Right”
- Healthy, Clean Eating! AKA No processed foods
- Eat tons of vegetables
- Be active everyday (exercise, walk the dogs, yoga, running)
- Drink at least two liters of water per day
- Save money (by cooking meals at home and not eating out)
- No alcohol (but hey, let’s be real, red wine once a week is healthy, right?!)
- Take time each day to focus on yourself (meditate, breathe, write in a journal, verbalize something you are grateful for in this awesome world)

The beauty of “Getting Your Mind Right” is that there is nothing difficult about it. No tricks. It is simply making the time to treat YOU in the best way possible. This will be the third time that we have done the challenge. Every single time that we finish, we learn something new about ourselves. When you pause and pay attention to the nourishment you are giving to your body, it is so easy to see why we don’t always feel our best. When you put good things into your life, good things will return.
Being an entrepreneur is one of the greatest challenges yet one of the most rewarding experiences either of us has ever experienced. It is so easy to forget to take care of yourself because you’re the boss. There isn’t someone there to tell you to take a break or that it’s okay to have a sick day. When you push yourself to your mental limits everyday, it is easy to overindulge. Taking a few weeks to recharge and get into a balanced place in life is well worth it!

Calling all NoDa neighbors! The inaugural NoDa Neighborhood Veggie Swap is happening this Saturday, July 26 in the gravel parking lot behind Smelly Cat Coffeehouse.
Do you grow a garden with an abundance of one or two kinds of vegetables? Want to see all of those tomatoes or peppers go to good use? Come out from 9am-2pm with your extra vegetables and swap with your neighbors.
Local urban farmers Scott & Joey from Linwell Farms NoDa will be on hand with a bunch of Malabar spinach, mint, lemongrass, sweet potato greens and a variety of hot peppers!
Organizers are hoping to make this a monthly event that brings the neighbors together and builds a sense of community in NoDa.
Don’t have a garden? No worries, everyone is welcome to attend! There will be lots of community activities happening including food truck Boone’s Bar-B-Que Kitchen serving up tasty food, a cold brew coffee & tea table from Smelly Cat, local honey vendors and more!
This is the perfect accompaniment to the already existing NoDa Farmers Market that happens every Saturday from 10am-2pm at The Evening Muse / The Daily Press . There is nothing better than local food and good coffee to bring people together.
Come out on Saturday for an awesome NoDa afternoon and share the vegetable love!

NoDa, Charlotte’s historic arts district, is home to all things local: restaurants, breweries, shops, coffeehouses, music and more. It is hard pressed to NOT walk down the street and stumble upon a hidden gem; a local love. For the ladies of #thesavageway, this fact is true everyday of the week, except Saturday morning. On Saturday, we crave local vegetables, fruit, eggs and meat. We WANT local options yet we have to travel out of the neighborhood to satisfy those cravings. Until now. Beginning Saturday, July 12, NoDa will host a farmers market!
The folks from The Evening Muse & The Daily Press have partnered with Atherton Food Hub to bring a weekly local, neighborhood solution to grocery shopping.
“Everyone in NoDa has been asking for a grocery store or a farmers market for quite some time,” noted Evening Muse/Daily Press owner Joe Kuhlmann. “We have a space that was not being utilized Saturday mornings and we wanted to open it up and use it to better our community.”
The farmers market, held inside The Evening Muse, will bring fresh food that has been harvested 24 hours or less from time of sale. Atherton Food Hub Founder, Pat Farrell, is beyond excited to bring another local market to a Charlotte neighborhood.
“Our mission is to assist local farmers in marketing their food so that they are able to move and grow more produce,” said Farrell. The NoDa farmers market is another great step in helping these farmers remain sustainable and profitable entities.

Expect to find delicious seasonal, non-GMO produce from farms less than 100 miles away. And if products like animal protein, eggs or cheese are on the shopping list, simply place an order for pick-up and it will be available the following week.
Stop by this weekend and sample produce, talk to the Atherton Food Hub team, sip a coffee or cocktail (yes, the bar will be open too) and get to know the neighbors.
NoDa is already home to so many local things that are embraced by the Charlotte community. A farmers market is the next logical piece to the neighborhood puzzle. The neighbors are buzzing and (needless-to-say) #thesavageway is beyond excited. So cheers to local food. Cheers to farmers. And cheers to Saturday mornings in the ‘hood buying groceries!

This is Part Five in a five part series diving into Clean Graffiti in the Queen City. Clean Graffiti is a service that #thesavageway offers; it is a unique, green form of advertising available since 2012. With several clients in the books, it is time to reflect on the practice. This piece is about incorporating community events with Clean Graffiti.
“Take me out to the ball game,” Charlotteans can now yell this nostalgic summertime phrase from their Uptown offices and actually walk to an afternoon baseball game. The Charlotte Knights kicked off their Uptown residency on April 11 for the season home opener at BB&T Ballpark. This momentous occasion is huge for the Charlotte sports community and the city is buzzing with excitement as can be seen when individual tickets went on sale in March.
In a continuing effort to show support to the Charlotte community as well as showcase innovative, green thinking, OrthoCarolina, Official Team Physicians of the Charlotte Knights, activated a Clean Graffiti Campaign to help launch the inaugural season.
Clean Graffiti is an eco-friendly and green form of advertising. These branded, positive messages are strategically placed on dirty sidewalks and a clean message remains. Not only is this an innovative and creative way to get a business’ marketing initiatives out to the public in a place that you typically would not be able to have a logo or message, but there is no use of any harmful chemicals or sprays – It is just water!
In collaboration with the OrthoCarolina team, #thesavageway created branded messages and then strategically placed the Clean Graffiti spots around the BB&T Ballpark and neighboring streets advertising the Knights new home in the QC.
Once again, OrthoCarolina was able to utilize an innovative and eco-friendly advertising medium to celebrate a momentous occasion in the Charlotte community. Not only did Clean Graffiti offer a green, sign alternative, it also provided “talkability,” which is something that a marketer is always seeking. Utilizing a community supported event, like the opening of the Knights new stadium, with an advertising initiative like Clean Graffiti was the perfect tie in for forward-thinking OrthoCarolina.
