Clean Graffiti – Eco-Friendly Part 2 of 5

Clean Graffiti – Eco-Friendly Part 2 of 5

This is Part Two in a Five part series diving into Clean Graffiti in the Queen City. Clean Graffiti is a service that #thesavageway offers; it is a unique, green form of advertising available since 2012. With several clients in the books, it is time to reflect on the practice. This piece is about the Eco-Friendly Aspect of Clean Graffiti.

“We’re going Green,” said every boss and every CEO across the nation in 2013. Environmentalism has become a hot topic for almost every business and industry (as it should) and Charlotte was no stranger to these initiatives.

The Charlotte Convention Center  has an entire section dedicated to Green efforts within their facility.  Members of several networking groups like the Charlotte Green Team and Green Drinks Charlotte meet every month to discuss how their respective businesses can become more eco-friendly. Needless-to-say, the Green movement is here to stay (Yay!)

Many companies are incorporating CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility into their business models in order to become a “Greener” business. What is CSR? Click here for more info. Methods include utilizing recyclable products, using renewable energy or simply educating customers on how to better reduce and reuse. However, there is also a need for eco-friendly advertising and marketing initiatives and that is where #thesavageway’s Clean Graffiti comes in.

Examples of other industry leaders utilizing Clean Graffiti.

Clean Graffiti is an eco-friendly and green form of advertising. These branded, positive messages are strategically placed on dirty sidewalks and a clean message remains.

There are many reasons for a company (large or small) to utilize Clean Graffiti. Not only is this an innovative and creative way to get your marketing initiatives out to the public in a place that you typically would not be able to have a message, but there is no use of any harmful chemicals or sprays – It’s Just Water!

#thesavageway is very good at analyzing a company’s need and translating that message into a creative branded message in strategic locations across the city. When a company chooses to use this sustainable form of marketing, they are able to brand themselves as an eco-friendly business that uses CSR practices.

Clean Graffiti – Longevity Part 1 of 5

Clean Graffiti – Longevity Part 1 of 5

This is Part 1 in a 5 Part Series diving into Clean Graffiti in the Queen City. Clean Graffiti is a service that #thesavageway has been honing in on for some time now. Months of research, technique testing and market research led to the clean advertising method that is now in practice across Charlotte. With several clients in the books, it is time to reflect on the practice. This piece is about the longevity of Clean Graffiti.

Back up to October 2012, a new local brewpub geared towards the foodie was slated to open in the Historic Arts District of NoDa : Heist Brewery . The Heist team had been working tirelessly to open their doors since 2011. #thesavageway  was already contracted as the marketing team to help get the brewery off the ground, running its Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, PR and Media Relations. The buzz could be heard around the city and there was a certain energy in the air. When grand opening week FINALLY arrived, it seemed like a natural fit to incorporate this new idea of Clean Graffiti.

Clean Graffiti  is an eco-friendly and green form of advertising. These branded, positive messages are strategically placed on dirty sidewalks and a clean message remains.

#thesavageway worked with Heist owner Kurt Hogan on where the placement of the messages would be; think directional signage leading to the new brewery, branded images throughout neighborhood streets and awareness in other neighborhoods.

Today is December 9, 2013. These messages were laid down over one year and 2 months ago. We will say that again – over 425 days ago! The longevity that these messages have is incredible. Not every spot will remain this long, average length is anywhere between 6 weeks and 8 months, it just depends on the environmental elements and foot traffic. From an advertising perspective, the average length of a newspaper ad or magazine ad is one week, one month at best. Clean Graffiti is an eco-friendly alternative that is clean, good for the environment and extremely cost effective in a conscientious way. It’s Just Water.

So as you are walking around the streets of NoDa this holiday season, keep an eye out for these Clean Graffiti messages – who knows, they may lead you to great beer!

Clean Graffiti Hits UNCC Campus

Clean Graffiti Hits UNCC Campus

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus saw a lot of “firsts” in 2013; the inaugural collegiate football season opened, the first no-waste stadium in the south was created at Jerry Richardson Stadium, and eco-friendly advertising, Clean Graffiti, was utilized on campus.

OrthoCarolina, the Official Team Physicians of the Charlotte 49ers, strategically placed Clean Graffiti messages around campus sidewalks and neighborhood streets touting the Inaugural Football Season.

OrthoCarolina was able to find an innovative way to show their support for this historic moment in campus history. As the Official Team Physicians they worked closely with the 49er Athletic Department. By executing Clean Graffiti on walking and running paths around campus, OrthoCarolina was able to bring awareness not only to the football season but to their brand.

Taking #thesavageway…..

Taking #thesavageway…..

By: Paula Bartlett (PR/Marketing Manager : Forever Intern)

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaszMm0ch4E&w=640&h=360]

When I met Torrie Savage, I knew that things in my life were about to dramatically change. Here we were, two twenty-something strangers having a drink at the local watering hole Jack Beagles in NoDa, with business being the last thing on our minds. We got to talking about what we did for a living (me: a bartender with aspirations to break into the event/marketing/communications field, her: a talented marketing executive with aspirations to start her own business). The stars were aligning right in front of my eyes.

After a few busy, busy weeks we FINALLY met up for a drink to discuss potentially working together. She started telling me about #thesavageway and what she hoped to accomplish with her company. She spoke about working with small businesses, working to positively influence the community, helping Charlotte to see that there are other ways to get a message out (a.k.a. what became Clean Graffiti) and a million other ideas. Things just clicked. I knew that I wanted to be a part of this future and this company. So, I’m sure somewhat reluctantly, she agreed to let me intern with her. A trial period. I mean, she did meet me in a bar and had to make sure I could do what I said I could 🙂

Things immediately got underway. She wasn’t officially a company yet but we operated like one… booking clients, brainstorming ideas, doing work! I learned something new from her everyday and loved being able to pick her brain about social media, how it works, why it works, strategy, etc. I felt at home and that I was finally doing something I’d been trying to do since I graduated from college in Ohio a few years ago.

So it’s been six months since I joined this team and I still can’t believe that I’ve been so blessed to work in an environment where I am challenged everyday. Where I get to work alongside fantastic, creative people, have fun, listen to music, dance and be goofy all while changing the Charlotte marketing scene. Everything about #thesavageway and what the company believes in is something I stand behind whole-heartedly. Truly blessed!

Now, when I look back on that fateful moment when Torrie and I met, all I can be is thankful that we both needed a dirty martini that day!

Dirty Sidewalk, Clean Message.

the concept : clean graffiti
the goal : eco-friendly advertising
the market : charlotte, nc
the brainstormers: my father and I

It was a few years ago when I first stumbled upon the idea of clean graffiti, I was helping my dad pressure wash his back sidewalk leading up to the deck. As I started to draw on the sidewalk with the pressure of the water the light bulbs went off in my head. My father and I then started to discuss the possibilities of how cool it would be to see a business’ name on the ground.

I then took this rough, cursive writing, and immediately began thinking why this hadn’t been done yet with a stencil and a message/campaign. Well, sure enough, reverse graffiti had been done before! Though starting as an art form and then a medium for advertising in Europe, the concept still hadn’t caught on as prevalently in the States. So, I did a the research and saw a need and an opportunity in the Charlotte community for a unique, green marketing initiative.

The stars began to align when I pitched my concept to OrthoCarolina, the largest private physician’s network in the Carolinas. They jumped at the chance to partner with a local small business and I couldn’t believe I was going to have a contract with such a large, positive, influential company.

My hope with Clean Graffiti is to partner with companies that wish to make a “green” mark on the over saturated advertising world. The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to what my company can do with these ads – from coming up with creative content and making interesting messages to where the ads are placed.  Clean Graffiti in just an extension of the services that I offer, but it is truly unique to the Queen City and something that I am very proud of.
