NoDa Canteen Now Open with Huge Moss Wall

NoDa Canteen Now Open with Huge Moss Wall

NoDa Canteen is now open at Camp North End (1824 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206). This tropical haven is the perfect addition to the area (and a mile from our studio!!). Canteen offers a gorgeous space that co-founders Scott Lindsley & Joey Hewell designed themselves to resemble both their other location, NoDa Company Store, and the jungle vibes of Bali, Roatán.

Torrie and I have known Scott & Joey for what seems like years now. Back when we did social media, we managed the NoDa Neighborhood Instagram and we able to feature all of the great work these two humans do for our city – Farmers Markets, opening the NoDa Company Store, Free Food Sundays and now NoDa Canteen! When they called and wanted a green wall we knew exactly what to make. Our lead Moss Artist, Ashley Schewzyk, put so much love and attention on this beauty.

Our green art is part of a floating wall, 15′ wide x 5 ‘h, flanked by gorgeous coral paint. We are OBSESSED with how this piece turned out. The lush ferns, foliage, mosses, mushrooms – all preserved mind you – are simply stunning. Check out this awesome reel from opening night.

Moss Art at The Mint Museum

Moss Art at The Mint Museum

We have the honor of being a featured artist in the Mint Museum Uptown! Gordon Holliday (@Roole.co) invited us to be a part of his show, Yasuke: The Hidden Ronin exhibit. Our Moss Art was a perfect addition to this eco-conscious, “art-full” experience. Check out all the details below on how you can view our work IRL.

Side Note: If you’ve been following us online for a long time and have yet to order a piece from us or see any of our work in real life, this is the PERFECT opportunity. Having a chance to view these piece away from a screen is a game-changer. Trust us… Moss Art is meant to be enjoyed in person – the dimension, the lush factor, the connection to nature – it is totally worth seeing!

Art Exhibit: Yasuke: The Hidden Ronin

About the Exhibit: The story of Yasuke is a fascinating story about the first black samurai. In understanding the history of traditional Japanese quilts, images of what Yasuke would wear in today’s modern times, inspired by contemporary fashion elements, were developed. In an effort to incorporate more sustainable methods of creation, donated, reworked, and up-cycled leftover materials were used to create this exhibition. Utilizing the traditional Japanese quilting style of Sashiko and Boro, 10 modern kimonos were created to honor the intersection of African and Japanese cultures through Yasuke.

Artists on Display: The Savage Way, Breonna Collier, Cordrell Colbert/ JMPCUT, Daremen Jones, Fart.PDF, CHEEKS.CLT, BRUTALBLOOM, JUS10, MAUVEOSHUN, Garreth Doug, Justin Hicks, Wabwilam Mugala, and Demarc Ramanand.

Dates: July 8, 2022 – to September 15, 2022.

Green Wall for Para, New Restaurant in Charlotte

Green Wall for Para, New Restaurant in Charlotte

If you live in Charlotte, NC, then you’ve certainly seen the hot new restaurant with the jungle vibes making its way around the internet by now. This is Para and we had the honor of creating some really special moments of interior design with our Moss Art. One of the owners is Chet Desai and he has been a client and friend of The Savage Way for years now. When we first started this company (and when we were still doing social media and marketing work) we helped him open Stache House & Lounge in Southend. Well things have come full circle as we were able to help him on his latest restaurant venture, Para.

We created two standout green wall moments for this contemporary, modern style restaurant and bar. The desire was to feel like you were walking into a lush and luxurious establishment like you would in Miami or NYC – but right here in the Queen City. Para will deliver a globally influenced menu built from fresh, high-quality ingredients – a little something for everyone.

Now for the Green Walls…The Moss Art

The first is this 12’w x 8.5’h gorgeous fern, foliage and moss wall that showcases the Para logo in gold painted letters. Green walls made of moss and other preserved plants are ideal for clients who want the look and feel of a plant wall but do not want to be concerned with maintaining it or killing the plants. All of the plants that you see have gone through an extensive preservation process so there is no need for water, drainage, sunlight or a costly maintenance package. We love how this piece acts as a center piece for the restaurant.

The second moss installation we created was a green wall for the bar fronts on the opposite side of the building. In total it is over 90 sqft of coverage. Using sheet moss, mood moss and reindeer moss, all preserved, we created this dimensional, textural, plant look to help tie into the lux feel of the entire place.

We also created this custom Mood Moss channel that lives behind the banquette seating. Just another little nod to the beauty of nature and the care and effort that went into every nook and cranny of Para.

We are always honored to have repeat customers and to have a client that trusts us to help bring a vision on paper into real life. Cheers to grand openings (officially open 1/19/22), cheers to using mother nature in interior design and cheers to friends bringing their dreams to life.

Three Moss Art Pieces for Lending Tree

Three Moss Art Pieces for Lending Tree

When we have the chance to create not one but three Moss Art pieces for a company like Lending Tree, you know we are doing a happy dance. Not just because of the work, but because this company sees the value in bringing plants/moss into a workspace. It truly transforms a space.

Moss Art is a perfect way for companies to bring a green, plant element inside without any of the maintenance. Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE plants and know that there is certainly a place for them in the workplace, but our Moss Art is such a great alternative because it requires zero maintenance. None! No water, sunlight or drainage required during buildout. No expensive ongoing maintenance packages. All of our moss is real, it is just preserved. It truly is a thing of wonder.

Now back to that company and this amazing job we’re talking about – Lending Tree! Lending Tree is “an online loan marketplace for various financial borrowing needs including auto loans, small business loans, personal loans, credit cards, and more….Together, these services serve as an ally for consumers who are looking to comparison shop among multiple businesses and professionals who will compete for their business.” (Lendingtree.com) They recently opened their new corporate headquarters in the Historic South End neighborhood of Charlotte, and this space is gorgeous! Their incredible team included Southwood Corporation who handled all of their signage and brought us into the equation.

We were hired to create three custom Moss Art pieces for the space, each unique in their concept and design. The first was the Lending Tree Logo made in preserved reindeer moss. We were able to use a variety of colors to complement the brand colors as well as the interior design.

The second piece was an homage to the Queen City. A 4’ tall CLT with the Lending Tree Leaf also made of preserved reindeer moss. This lichen is great because it offers beautiful coloring as well as sound absorption properties.

The third piece was a 10’ wide x 9’ tall “Breathe” wall made with preserved sheet/flat moss, Mood/pillow moss and reindeer moss. The moss was placed within a structure that Southwood Corporation built. The grandeur of the Moss Art is what stuck with us. It is simple yet so impactful.

Congrats to the Lending Tree team on the new office. And thank you for embracing our fun, custom art as a part of your interior design package. Learn more about our offerings and how we can bring some life into your work environment
