We love when companies contact us to do something out of the box. When they want to create a fun and interactive campaign that brings attention to their brand in a different way, that’s the ticket. And that’s what Brixx Pizza decided to do.
Brixx Pizza opened their doors in 1998 in the historic Dilworth neighborhood in Charlotte, NC. By utilizing brick ovens to enhance the natural flavors of quality ingredients, Brixx has been able to successfully open 30 stores throughout the Southeast. Not only is their pizza delicious, but they have a huge heart for this community. Most recently, Brixx Pizza donated $10,000 to the Isabella Santos Foundation.
The Brixx Pizza team had us place random branded rocks around the city. The goal was to bring attention to their Charlotte locations and encourage the downloading of their Brixx Roxx app on iPhone and Android.

Brixx Pizza launched a creative marketing campaign using branded rocks to drive traffic to their 6 locations.

You Rock. Brixx Roxx. Let’s be friends.

Creative Marketing at it’s finest, by #thesavageway.
We placed red rocks with a branded message on it near these six Brixx Pizza locations:
Birkdale (16915 Birkdale Commons Pkwy)
Blakeney (9820 Rea Rd.)
Dilworth (1801 Scott Ave.)
Foxcroft (7814 Fairview Rd.)
Uptown (225 E. 6th St.)
Fort Mill, SC (1343 Broadcloth St.)
We placed these rocks in popular, high-foot traffic areas, think parks, shopping plazas, parking lots, etc. Anywhere your family might hang out for a minute, you could find a rock. (i.e. Harris Teeter entrances, Target parking lot, Starbucks planters, etc.)
Here’s how it works:
- Find a “Brixx Roxx” promo rock around one of the six Charlotte Brixx locations
- Download the Brixx Roxx app
- Bring the rock into your local Brixx location
- Get a free, yummy surprise
It’s that easy. So go out there, pizza lovers, and find yourself a rock. Let Brixx Pizza know how much you love their creative marketing idea!

Thanks to our driveway artist, Robin Tonelli, for setting up this partnership with the awesome folks at First Christian Church (1200 East Boulevard). The church is in the heart of the Dilworth Home Tour and the driveway art that we created will be seen by hundreds of people as they walk the 44th Annual route.

The tour takes place this weekend, Friday (9/16), from 6-9pm and Saturday (9/17), from 10am-5pm. You can still buy tickets here (show your receipt at any of the Tour homes to pick up these tickets). You can also purchase tickets at Paper Skyscraper, Dilworth Drugs, Park Road Books, and Ultra Running Company.
The homes on tour are: 2001 Dilworth Road West, 1918 Lennox, 1114 Linganore, 2402 Cumberland, 504 McDonald, 1715 Euclid, 1238 Belgrave, and the Dilworth Community Garden at 1300 Ordermore Ave.
Each year, the non-profit Dilworth Community Association (“DCA”) stages Charlotte’s oldest home tour with proceeds benefiting DCA efforts such as the fall Dilworth Jubilee, Conquer the Cankerworm tree banding, and contributions to groups such as Historic Charlotte. 20% of Home Tour proceeds support the DCA’s giving arm called Dilworth Cares. Dilworth Cares designates a local charity each year to receive funds from several neighborhood functions throughout the year.
The 2016 Dilworth Cares recipient is Dilworth Soup Kitchen (located in the same space as First Christian Church) which is where our driveway art is displayed.

We’ve partnered with OrthoCarolina on a number of projects over the years. You may remember our motivational running messages, Panthers football campaign and #WalkCLT in Plaza Midwood. However, our latest initiative, #CLTFreeWorkout, is definitely one of the most interactive and community building campaigns that we’ve ever created.

The starting location of the #CLTFreeWorkout in the Wilmore neighborhood of Charlotte. #thesavageway
#CLTFreeWorkout is a Clean Graffiti campaign that utilizes the sidewalks to guide a series of FREE body-weight exercises in six different areas of town. Those areas include Sedgefield, NoDa, Dilworth, West Charlotte, Cherry and Wilmore. Click here for maps.
OrthoCarolina is a huge proponent of building community and promoting health & wellness in the greater Charlotte area. When we approached the Vice President of Marketing, Blair Primis, with an idea to create pop-up style workout stations, he lit up in excitement.
“I thought the idea was brilliant,” said Primis, “and my immediate response was that we will make this happen. Done.”
We worked with OrthoCarolina physician, Aaron Hewitt, to create safe, easy-to-learn exercises that could be turned into a full body workout. The exercises include Air Squats, Arm Circles, Push-ups, Lunges, Jumping Jacks & Plank – repeat 5x. Instructional videos can be found here on www.cltfreeworkout.com.

Using Clean Graffiti for a healthy initiative in the Charlotte, NC area. #thesavageway
One of the greatest elements of #CLTFreeWorkout is that we created a hashtag with the campaign. Now, whenever people are out doing the workout (whether they planned it or they stumbled upon it on a daily run), they can post a picture to social media and use #CLTFreeWorkout. We are able to track & see how many people are interacting with this healthy initiative.

Now that the campaign is launched, our client is seeing the results. “We’re thrilled,” said Primis. “The community has embraced it and are out there getting the workouts in. So cool to see.”
You can check out more coverage from our awesome city-wide campaign in the Charlotte Observer article, Charlotte Agenda feature, Charlotte Five coverage or this news clip from WCNC. Hopefully we will see this awesome initiative in other cities soon!
