We live and work in Charlotte, NC, a city that’s long been known for it’s financial institutions; Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and BB&T dominate the skyline. But did you know that Charlotte is also home to one of the top ranked business schools in the country? That’s right, the Belk College of Business is making a name for themselves across the country and when we were given the opportunity to work with them, we jumped at the chance. In fact, we partnered with Belk College on two large-scale Clean Graffiti campaigns.

First a little more on Belk College.

The Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte is doing some amazing things for their graduates. From master’s degrees and certificate programs, to doctoral programs, Belk College graduates are significant players in Charlotte’s business community. With more than 18,000 grads working in the Charlotte region, the college’s alumni make up one of the most connected networks in a city that Forbes ranked among the “Best Places for Business and Careers.”

Each year, Belk College graduates flood the ranks of the Fortune 500, and they see their master’s at work when they enjoy a 93% placement rate as a result of the networking and recruiting opportunities offered by the college. In addition, graduates of the college’s 5 master’s programs truly see their master’s degree at work in regards to salary—alumni report an average $20,000 salary increase in the months after graduation.

Now onto the Clean Graffiti campaigns.

Belk College highlights #YourMastersAtWork with Clean Graffiti. #thesavageway

We partnered with the Belk College of Business on two large-scale Clean Graffiti campaigns. The first run of reverse graffiti went down in the fall of 2016. These spots highlighted the Uptown Charlotte location (that unique building on 9th Street) and their impressive MBA Program. Twelve spots went down in the Uptown and South End areas, as well as surrounding neighborhoods like NoDa and Elizabeth.

Spring of 2017 brought about round two of the campaign with 24 Clean Graffiti spots highlighting the perks of a master’s degree. The “93% placement rating” and “$20,000 salary bump” were featured when we cleaned these messages into dirt. That’s #YourMastersAtWork. The spots can be found throughout the city of Charlotte.

To bring attention to the newest eco-friendly messages, Belk College is running a fun social media campaign. If you see one of their Clean Graffiti message on a sidewalk around town, post a photo of the spot and your shoes on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Make sure to use the hashtag #YourMastersAtWork and tag @UNCCBelkCollege for a chance to win a Belk College YETI Tumbler. The contest runs until April 5, 2017 and the best shoe shot wins.

So make sure to take a walk around the city and look for a Belk College Clean Graffiti spot. You just may be a winner!

Novant Health used Clean Graffiti to spread the message of breast health. #thesavageway

We’re taking it back in time with this blog post on one of our favorite Clean Graffiti clients. In fact, we’re taking it all the way back to October 2016. During Breast Cancer Awareness month, we were lucky enough to partner with Novant Health in eight cities on a reverse graffiti campaign that promoted wellness for women.

Throughout the month of October, we visited Manassas and Culpepper, VA, as well as six North Carolina cities. Those cities included Winston-Salem, Thomasville, Kernersville,Salisbury, Huntersville, and the Greater Charlotte area including Uptown, Matthews, Ballantyne and University. The campaign we created revolved around two different pieces of creative; “Mammograms….15 minutes can save your life,” and “1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer…Get Checked.” These health tips were a great way to speak to women where they are, their neighborhoods.

As we travelled around the state of North Carolina, we were able to spread this important message of getting a mammogram. Novant Health puts a ton of resources into educating the public on the necessity for mammogram screenings and how to reduce risk. Utilizing Clean Graffiti was a first for this healthcare giant but it allowed this health message to reach parts of the state that do not normally see digital ads or other outdoor advertisements. This is a great way to use natural media, to promote a health initiative where the public will literally walk right over it.

Using Clean Graffiti to promote a health initiative makes Novant Health stand out in the marketplace. #thesavageway

If you, or a lady you love, are in need of a mammogram screening, you do not have to wait until October. Schedule one today, Here is a link with all of the information you need on breast health. There are a multitude of Novant Health Mammogram screening locations, as well as a Mobile Mammogram Unit, so there is definitely no excuse not to get your screening.

We look forward to continuing this partnership and helping to spread this amazing message to even more areas of the state with Clean Graffiti. Stay tuned. 😉

Lululemon Clean Graffiti in Charlotte, NC

Lululemon Clean Graffiti in Charlotte, NC

Sidewalk Art for Lululemon

Lululemon Clean Graffiti by #thesavageway.

In late December 2016, we launched the first Lululemon Clean Graffiti campaign in the country. Our eco-friendly, outdoor messaging was the perfect fit to spread the word about “The Air Out There” outdoor running campaign.

Lululemon is a major global company that you may be familiar with – Yoga pants anyone? But Lululemon is also a luxury apparel brand that is dedicated to supporting and manifesting lifestyles for men and women while also building a community with like minded individuals.

Our partnership with Lululemon grew out of a desire for us to “pave the way” into a new year with a fresh, out of the box campaign. Enter Clean Graffiti. Lululemon wanted to reach out to the collective runners of Charlotte who run to feel grounded and leave a workout feeling inspired.

This community mindset can be found in their core principles, or their Manifesto (which you can read on each and every bag). If you’ve never seen it, here it is.

CoreBeliefs_Lululemon

The Lululemon Manifesto.

“The conscious brain can only hold one thought at a time, choose a positive thought.”

“Love, dance, sing, floss and travel.”

“A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offsets stress.”

Seriously, they are speaking the language of #thesavageway!! We were blown away at how much our missions aligned. Choosing to partner on a reverse graffiti promotion was a no-brainer for us.

Lululemon launches The Air Out There campaign.

Now onto the Clean Graffiti campaign. Since Lululemon’s goal was to encourage runners to hit the sidewalks throughout the winter months, our partnership naturally turned to connecting the dots within the Charlotte community. We were able to link Lululemon with local run clubs and some of the awesome runners this city has to offer.

The Clean Graffiti went down throughout popular running areas in Charlotte, NC in correlation with the “The Air Out There” nationwide campaign. These spots encouraged runners to pause and reflect on how running can keep you grounded. Lululemon chose to target and show support to runners along the NoDa Brewing Run Club, Legion Brewing Run Club, Heist Brewery Run Route and a few in Dilworth & Southend. The Lululemon team even hosted a Silent Run in December at NoDa Run Club where they offered a Meditation Specialist pre-run and brought running swag for runners to embrace that chilly winer wind.

Lululemon is doing some pretty awesome things in the community. Just take a look at some of the pictures tagged under the hashtag #TheAirOutThere on Instagram. As our partnership with Lululemon continues to grow, you’ll be sure to see more campaigns in the future. Until then, hit those sidewalks runners!

Hello 2017! Meet #thesavageway

Hello 2017! Meet #thesavageway

Torrie & Paula of #thesavageway

Meet #thesavageway: Torrie Savage & Paula Bartlett seeking the good on a job in Boston, MA.

Meet #thesavageway

We’ve been in business since 2012. In the early days we focused on social media execution/training along with PR for local Charlotte businesses. From Papi Queso, Heist Brewery and Libretto’s Pizzeria to AIR Aerial Fitness and Cruise Carts, our client list was diverse and successful. However, while we were representing our clients during the day, at night we were creating something new and different – Clean Graffiti (or a clean message on a dirty sidewalk).

As we developed our core eco-friendly service, Clean Graffiti, we deliberately created a shift in our business. We began opening up our time for more Clean Graffiti work and slowly wrapping up our social media consulting clients. This shift happened over a few years, but now we are in a place where the services of #thesavageway reflect our passions.

We still consult and guide local businesses from time to time, but we only accept a handful as clients. And the ones we choose to work with, we wholeheartedly believe in what they stand for as a company.

So what is #thesavageway?
We are a creative marketing agency. We seek clients who are willing to think big and entrust us with their message.
We cultivate creativity in nature. Whether it is dirt and concrete or moss and recycled wood, we find the beauty in the outdoors and turn it into a creative marketing campaign.
We are a lifestyle. Our outlook on life, the future, health, food and relationships – they all revolve around compassion and living colorfully. We seek the good in all things and desire for you to as well.

So hello! We’re Paula Bartlett (that’s me – I write this blog) and Torrie Savage. 2017 is going to be a great year and we hope that you follow along. Expect to see some fun reverse graffiti campaigns (across many cities), lots of yummy plant based food, dancing videos, laughter and other shenanigans. Oh and be sure to follow our Instagram page – that’s where all the fun really happens 🙂

Let the Beer Quest Begin

Let the Beer Quest Begin

Fall beer festival, Beer Quest, is going down this Saturday, 11/19. #thesavageway

Beer Quest is happening Saturday, November 19 at BB&T Ballpark. #thesavageway

All About Beer Magazine’s fall beer festival, Beer Quest, is going down this Saturday, November 19. Head to BB&T Ballpark (324 S. Mint St Charlotte, NC) for the VIP hour, 12-1pm, or General Admission from 1-5pm. It is sure to be a day full of delicious beers from 35 of the nation’s top breweries. More information on the event.

Beer Quest is a little different than your typical beer festival. Guests can either meander around the event to sample all the beers, or they can follow four distinct paths to enjoy their favorite styles of beer. These paths include Hoppy & Curious, Fizzy Yellow Greatness, The Dark Path and Not 4 n00bs. The four curated beer experiences can be seen here.

#thesavageway had the pleasure of executing some Clean Graffiti for Beer Quest to help promote the event on a local level. The spots went down in and around Uptown, Charlotte, NC. It was fun being able to create a design that incorporated elements of a comic strip, a video game and an action movie.

Breaking into Virginia

Breaking into Virginia

Breaking into Virginia has always been a goal and a vision of #thesavageway expansion. We are honored that our first client in this new territory was Hampton Roads Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine located in Newport News.

Clean Graffiti in Newport News, VA by #thesavageway.

Clean Graffiti in Newport News, VA by #thesavageway.

We were contracted by Hampton Roads Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (HROSM) to promote wellness & physical activity through our Clean Graffiti services. We executed 10 spots that read “Keep Your Body in Motion” in the Newport News area of town. Newport News is a quaint area of Virginia with a ton of up and coming neighborhoods. We focused our reverse graffiti services around Port Warwick, City Center at Oyster Point, The Greenlands and Noland Trail.

“Clean Graffiti is new to the Hampton Roads community,” said April Weston, Director of Marketing & Public Relations for Hampton Roads Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. “We have had positive feedback from people of all ages; teens and adults who think the concept and idea is great. People having been taking pictures and sharing through social media and we truly believe that this will continue to grow as more and more people come across the “HROSM” mark around our city.”

Using a hashtag (like #HROSM) is a great way to encourage people to post and engage on social media. As people are walking on the sidewalks (already on their phones) and notice a Clean Graffiti spot, they can post and tag the photo.

Weston continued, “Our goal in utilizing Clean Graffiti was twofold. We wanted to expand our brand recognition and capture people’s attention through using a new form of advertising; something unique and catchy. At the same time, we wanted to meet people on a where they were- running trails, shopping areas, or walking with their family with an encouraging message.”
