Open Streets 704 is BACK!

Open Streets 704 is BACK!

Open Streets in Charlotte

Open Streets 704 is this Sunday, May 7 from 1-5pm.

That’s right…Open Streets 704 is BACK! This Sunday, join the Charlotte community for the next installment of Open Streets 704, this time in Plaza Midwood and Elizabeth.

If you’re unfamiliar with Open Streets you can check out this amazing health & community initiative here. But in short, “Open Streets 704 powered by BlueCross Blue Shield of North Carolina is a series of four Charlotte events that will literally open a length of city streets for an afternoon just for people!” It encourages locals to walk, bicycle, and experience the city together in a way that’s just not possible in a car.

The event is this Sunday, May 7 from 1-5pm. You can check out the route here.

We had the opportunity to partner again with the organizers, Well-Run Media and the Mecklenburg County Department of Parks & Recreation, on a Clean Graffiti campaign. Check out these photos.

We absolutely love working with this initiative. The concept behind Open Streets is everything we can stand behind; community building, walking (follow us on Instagram stories to see some of our walking adventures), being active with the family, being outside. It’s. Awesome.

Both of us will be hitting the streets in celebration this coming Sunday. We’ll be running around, doing some yoga, maybe biking, playing hopscotch, meeting the neighbors and just having fun!

We hope to see you!

#LovePeopleNotJustCoffee

Working with a client like Not Just Coffee is somewhat of a dream. Not only are the people behind this successful Charlotte coffee shop some of the best people on the planet, but they are open to our crazy, out of the box ideas.

We had an idea to share the power of love & positivity through a Clean Graffiti campaign. Everyone loves coffee. Just mentioning that sweet morning nectar on social media will garner you some attention (likes, retweets, comments, etc). However, we want our city to love people, not just coffee.

We pitched the idea of #LovePeopleNotJustCoffee to the Not Just Coffee team and immediately we knew it was the perfect fit. Not Just Coffee is a craft coffee shop with three locations in Charlotte (Atherton Mill & Market, 7th Street Public Market, and Packard Place). They are hyper community-oriented, socially minded and thoughtful. James & Miracle Yoder, owners, opened their hearts and their doors to us (and this idea).

The idea was to put down some Clean Graffiti around the city, in several neighborhoods, and then host some social gatherings to encourage people to connect. The Clean Graffiti was designed in collaboration with Matt Hooker, a local Charlotte artist. If you live in this city, you’ve certainly seen his amazing work.

With the Clean Graffiti in place, we brought in the Conduit of Love in Charlotte, Stephen Graddick (@theecopreneur) to help us bring this vision to life. On a sunny Wednesday evening, we would gather a small group of seemingly random people for drinks & conversation. Our goal was to bring our worlds together and fill the room with love.

Cheers to all of these humans for joining us for a night all about love & positivity. You are what make CLT so amazing. #LovePeopleNotJustCoffee

This amazing group of humans gathered and instead of the typical icebreaker question “What do you do,” Stephen prompted the question, “What do you love? What inspires you?” It was amazing to see this group ebb and flow in conversation, to laugh with new friends and leave feeling inspired.

After a short while, we walked out to a Clean Graffiti spot in SouthEnd and snapped some fun group pictures. Here is a sampling of the love that was created that night.

Spread Love!!!!! #LovePeopleNotJustCoffee

Now there is a new mission, Charlotte. Go find a Not Just Coffee Clean Graffiti spot around town – there are 12 of them – upload a picture and share what you love about someone. Let’s spread this message throughout the Queen City. Then take a moment to call your mom, text a friend, help a stranger, check in with someone – just spread the love. <3

Morning Thoughts: Write It Down

Morning Thoughts: Write It Down

MORNING THOUGHTS SERIES: Once a week we will be sharing some of our morning meditations, coffee talks and general life mantras. Yes, #thesavageway is a creative marketing agency, but it is also a lifestyle. We (Torrie Savage & Paula Bartlett) strive to live a healthy, happy, positive life and we want to share our perspective. You can also follow along on Instagram with the hashtag #thesavageway.

Passion Planner_Morning Thoughts Write It Down

Morning Thoughts: Write it Down. The Passion Planner is a saving grace for everyday planning. #thesavageway

We are team paper at #thesavageway. Yes, we work in the digital space and can appreciate those iCalendar meeting reminders, but there is just something about putting pen to paper that just doesn’t compare to using technology.

If you ever take a meeting with me (Paula) or Torrie you are bound to see a Passion Planner, little notebook, a printed list of things to accomplish, Post-it notes, etc. #AllThePaperOptions.

Being a business owner requires us to wear many hats – Sales, Marketing, Operations, Creative Leaders, HR, Customer Service, Accounting, etc. Writing things down not only makes it easier to prioritize tasks, stay focused and be more productive, but it helps us to keep our sanity.

I write everything down; To-do lists, grocery lists, random thoughts while sitting on the porch. Everything. And usually in two different places. If I don’t write it down, it’s like it’s not real.

In fact, paper is so crucial to our lives that we use our notes to help manifest ideas. Setting intentions has become an every week practice for both of us. A visual representation of our personal and business goals helps to make those dreams a reality. We are constantly reinforcing what we want to happen in our lives – and we are able to make actual progress on accomplishing those goals because they are top of mind. By putting pen to paper, we are actively opening the space for ideas to become a reality.

So cheers to appreciating the old school art of taking notes. Cheers to staying organized & sane. Cheers to manifesting all of the ideas. And cheers to always having Post-its in your purse.

AAA Carolinas Moss Art

#thesavageway Moss Art for AAA Carolinas. 100% real plants, naturally preserved.

We were recently contracted by AAA Carolinas to create a custom Moss Art sign for their main conference room at 6600 AAA Dr. Charlotte, NC (AAA Headquarters).

This intricate logo design is the perfect green addition to an otherwise traditional meeting space. The piece measured 4’ in width and looks great centered on the wall. We partnered with our local woodworker, Wooden Fox, to get the logo cut.

Our moss is made from 100% real plants that have been naturally preserved so there is no maintenance required. Imagine that – no watering, no fertilizer, no sunlight required. Simply hang your Moss Art on the wall and enjoy nature’s beauty (without the green thumb required)

Trust Your Gut

TrustYourGut_thesavageway_MorningThoughts

#thesavageway has been using the mantra of “Trust Your Gut” since its founding in 2012.

When I think about #thesavageway and what we’ve built our company upon, one notion keeps coming to the surface. That notion is “Trust Your Gut.” It is incredibly important to learn what you value and what you want to put out into the world, both as an individual and as a business. Once you know what matters to you, you will be able to practice the skill of trusting your gut.

Many times as an entrepreneur you are going to be challenged with unchartered territories; client requests that seem far fetched, making business decisions that will affect you one year down the road, or deciding whether to take on that new project or not. All of these instances can be scary and overwhelming. However, decisions become a lot easier if you can trust your gut and listen to those core values.

When you “Trust Your Gut,” you can take the second guessing out of things. If you know you don’t want to represent that company, you will say no…not “Maybe?!?” You will feel confident that it is not the right fit, and that you’re not just saying yes because you need the paycheck.

Learning to trust your gut is a practice. It’s something that you have to actively stimulate to do well. Ask yourself what you value. What does your company represent? Who do you want to be talking about everyday? We like this 3-minute read from Fast Company that talks about the importance of listening to your gut – especially the notion of carving out time to reflect.

At the end of the day, if you feel confident in the decisions you make, whether it’s making a change in your business direction or adding/subtracting a client, as long as you trust your gut – you’ll be good.
