#thesavageway Hired on the West Coast for Clean Graffiti

In June of 2017, #thesavageway was hired to do Clean Graffiti in Portland, OR & Vancouver, WA. We worked with HMH Agency for their client the Trimet, the public transportation system of Portland & Vancouver, to bring awareness to their new fast pass payment system. This blog details our trip!

Flight to Portland, OR

Flying into one of the most beautiful cities, Portland, OR, to do some Clean Graffiti work. #DreamJob

This summer, Torrie & I had the chance to travel across the country to do some Clean Graffiti for our client, HMH Agency. Let me say that again, we travelled over 2,700 miles to complete eco-friendly advertising in one of the most beautiful places on Earth! I still have a hard time believing this is reality.

Portland, OR had been on my personal bucket list since high school and it has been on our professional bucket list for at least 4 years. The culture, nature, the vegan food (!), the dirt & mold (perfect for Clean Graffiti) – Portland seemed like such an oasis.

When we finally booked the job, not only were we excited to travel, but we could not have been more excited for the initiative that it supported. We were supporting the Trimet, Oregon’s public transportation system, and their Hop Fast Pass program that was launching in Fall 2017. By using Clean Graffiti in Portland, OR, we were able to communicate with an over-stimulated public in a subtle, relatable way. We placed the Clean Graffiti spots around popular bus stops and light rail stops.

We used 4 different stencils that featured ” The Spokesblob” of the Trimet. This character was already being used in other outdoor media buys; billboards, magazine ads, sides of busses, etc. It made sense to bring that same “Spokesblob” to the sidewalk since the masses were already use to them. It was a subtle enough message to be well-accepted by every passerby.

We had a wonderful experience working with HMH Agency on this campaign. They have offices in both Charlotte, NC & Portland, OR so our communication flowed effortlessly. We were honored that they wanted to bring our Clean Graffiti to their clients and truly use the medium as a communication tool.

Portland & Vancouver made the perfect canvas for our work with Clean Graffiti. The climate, as well as the eco-friendly mentality of the West Coast, made Portland a new market for #thesavageway. We saw endless opportunities to use our creative, out-of-the-box advertising medium.

MORE ON OUR TRIP
Yes, we were in town for work, but we definitely made time to explore and enjoy the beauty that is Oregon and Washington. A few of the highlights included:

It is an amazing feeling to know that something we created, Clean Graffiti, is not only fueling our business on the East Coast, but we now have a presence on the other side of the nation. We are actively seeking clients in the Portland area and are open and excited for the next work trip we take to the West Coast.

Yoga One Spreads Message of Love

Yoga One Spreads Message of Love

What does your business promote? When we had the chance to do a Clean Graffiti campaign with local Charlotte yoga studio, Yoga One, they knew exactly what they wanted to put out into the world; Love one another. Such a simple, yet profound statement.

We placed 12 Clean Graffiti spots around their two studios, located in Plaza Midwood and the newly opened studio in Dilworth. Using a play on their logo, as well as the phrase that represents the lifeline of their wellness practice, Yoga One was able to connect with the public in a subtle, relatable way. We received several Instagram messages from people who spotted a Clean Graffiti spot and snapped a pic.

Mammogram…The Other Screen You Need This Summer

Mammogram…The Other Screen You Need This Summer

Summer is here. That means no school, days at the pool, family vacation, and lots of time in the sun. We know you are protecting your skin with plenty of sunscreen, but summer is also a great time to schedule “the other screen you need”… a mammogram. That’s why we partnered with leading healthcare provider, Novant Health, on a multi-city Clean Graffiti campaign promoting mammograms.

Reverse Graffiti for leading healthcare company

Clean Graffiti for Novant Health encourages mammogram screenings this summer. #thesavageway

Creative Marketing for Novant Health

“I stand for mammograms” creative message for Novant Health in Winston Salem, NC. #thesavageway

Novant Health understands that October is not the only month that breast health is of importance. Women can and should schedule their mammogram when it’s convenient for them – any time of year. This public health campaign is spreading such an important message about breast health. You can check out more about the importance of early breast cancer detection in this article from the American Cancer Society.

For the Clean Graffiti campaign, we travelled to three cities (Winston Salem, Salisbury, Huntersville) and five areas in Charlotte, NC (Uptown, Ballantyne, Southpark, Piper Glen, Arboreteum) to help spread this health initiative. We love the play on sunscreen and the hot southern summers that we have in Charlotte, NC.

Clean Graffiti is a unique element of a media buy for Novant Health because there is a social element that is involved. We try to create messages that will make people stop & smile. As a society, we are bombarded with thousands of images every single day. It’s overwhelming (and easy to tune things out). Our natural form of media is unexpected, eco-friendly and can often encourage people to post to their social media platform. It’s always nice to see people post about a campaign on Instagram, just like @mamfrancis did (see below).

We are thrilled to work with progressive companies who are able to tie in natural media into their overall company message. Our projects with Novant Health have been fun, educational and a new way for people to hear about this important health screening.

Carolina Panthers Launch “Wofford is Coming” Campaign

Reverse Graffiti for the Panthers

Carolina Panthers launch “Wofford is Coming” training camp campaign in Charlotte, Raleigh & Columbia.

The Carolina Panthers are known for their creative marketing efforts. Catch their latest Twitter stunt using the Fresh Prince theme song here. Living in Charlotte, NC, home of the Panthers, we know how much love the Carolinas have for this football team. So when we got a call to help with a top-secret campaign for training camp, we knew we were in for something fun.

“Wofford is Coming” is a play on both the Panthers Training camp at Wofford College and the upcoming Game of Thrones premiere this Sunday. The Panthers PR and social media team sure know how to start some buzz; t-shirts, stickers and other swag were sent to players, fans and the media and they even created a Clean Graffiti campaign across multiple markets.

#thesavageway was brought in to execute our eco-friendly, temporary Clean Graffiti in three markets, Charlotte and Raleigh, NC and Columbia, SC. These spots were placed in high-traffic areas in each of these cities. And for those wondering, it is created using water (how awesome is that?!).

It’s been fun to watch the public get excited about Panthers training camp and the upcoming season. Taking to Twitter, Instagram & Facebook to express their excitement by tagging @Panthers and using #WoffordIsComing.

We love when large corporations and organizations reach out to utilize us as part of their media buy. Natural Media is a great alternative to create subtle, unexpected buzz around a campaign. The Panthers already do such a great job of fun outreach and thinking outside the usual media box, and now they can add Clean Graffiti to their tactic list!

Get excited for the upcoming NFL football season… Wofford is Coming.

“Wherever you’re going, we hope there’s fruits and veggies.” This is a statement that could have come straight out of our mouths. We believe in the power of plants and know the importance of eating a colorful, healthy meal, so when FNV (powered by Blue Cross Blue Shield) contacted us about doing a Clean Graffiti campaign to add to their new health initiative, FNVinNC, we jumped for joy at the chance.

FNV stands for fruits and veggies. “Fresh, frozen, canned or dried we can’t get enough of them. We’re on a mission to change the way America eats and we’re coming for you, North Carolina! Thanks to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, FNV is taking over billboards, airwaves, social media and your favorite local events to make sure the Tar Heel State is getting an extra helping of nature’s juiciest treats,” (from the FNV website).

This campaign is backed by Bespoke Sports & Entertainment, a sports and entertainment consulting and marketing agency. It launched in spring of 2017 with projects in Durham & Raleigh, North Carolina but will make its way around NC as time goes on. The kickoff event took place at the Durham Bulls Stadium with a weekend takeover on April 28-30. Vending machines giving out free fruit, nuts and vegetables were placed around the stadium, pop-up tents with information on the importance of eating fresh and healthy were all around town, and Clean Graffiti was placed at your feet to encourage walkers and bikers to think about eating fruits and veggies.

Our Clean Graffiti went down in the state capital of Raleigh NC, as well as Durham. The Bespoke team did an amazing job of making their marketing message full-circle. The call to action with the reverse graffiti was tracked with a hashtag (#FNVinNC) and the message itself was used in digital ads, copy points for the press, and on their website. When a campaign makes sense and is full-circle, the consumer will get the most of the message.

Here are some photos of this awesome, healthy awareness campaign for Blue Cross Blue Shield’s FNV Clean Graffiti initiative.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERACTION

One of the best things about this campaign is the interaction that it is getting from the public. You can check out all of the posts by searching #FNVinNC on Instagram but in the mean time, here is a sampling.

We absolutely love this Clean Graffiti campaign. Not only are we putting a positive message out into the universe, but we are inspiring people to pause and think about what they are putting into their bodies. It’s amazing the art and message you can create out of dirt. Now go eat your fruits and veggies! 🙂

WalkCLT is happening Friday, June 2 in the FreeMoreWest neighborhood. #thesavageway

Walking as a form of transportation is an underrated thing. When you walk, you not only get exercise but you get to explore parts of the city that you can’t see from the car. It’s awesome.

#WalkCLT is an initiative to promote walking as a form of transportation (it’s simple really). Using signage and Clean Graffiti, this project encourages residents and visitors of a neighborhood to be more eco-friendly and walk, bike or carpool to destinations in this area.

This installment of #WalkCLT is in the FreeMoreWest Area (including Wesley Heights, Seversville, Enderly Park, Bryant Park, and the Stewart Creek / Irwin Creek Greenways). We used pedestrian wayfinding signs, at both at ground and eye-level, to tell residents how many minutes it will take them to walk to popular local destinations. This is the second installment of WalkCLT; the original launch took place in Plaza Midwood in Fall 2015.

We were able to partner with Third Rock Events on some Clean Graffiti for the upcoming South End Hops Festival. We love how the Historic South End logo is intertwined with the hop leaves. Our eco-friendly process is the perfect addition to any event. Using just water and dirt, we are able to target your audience in an unexpected way – the sidewalk. You can find these on your walk to the beer festival and throughout South End.
