NCDOT’s Booze It & Lose It Statewide Clean Graffiti Campaign

NCDOT’s Booze It & Lose It Statewide Clean Graffiti Campaign

Reverse Graffiti Campaign Touting Safety Message Installed for the NCDOT

For the second time, #thesavageway was hired to bring awareness to the Booze It & Lose It campaign sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) / Governor’s Highway Safety Program. “Recognized as one of the nation’s most effective anti-drunk-driving campaigns, Booze It & Lose It has created increased awareness of the dangers and the consequences of drinking and driving through innovative education campaigns and extensive enforcement of impaired-driving laws.”

You can read more about the BILI initiative here.

Our role was to utilize our Clean Graffiti medium to provide reminders on the sidewalk that drinking and driving is not okay. The stencil read “Don’t Drink & Drive. BeSmarterThanThat.com.” We targeted highly popular bars, restaurants, liquor stores and gas stations that sell alcohol. Our campaign took us to 9 cities across North Carolina including Greenville, Fayetteville, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Robeson County (Pembroke & Lumberton), Charlotte, and Asheville.

Creative marketing on the sidewalks for the message to not drink and drive.

Booze It & Lose It Clean Graffiti campaign for the NCDOT.

Clean Graffiti is a great marketing tactic for a campaign like this because you are able to directly target your audience where they are walking – the sidewalk. It is another reminder to be safe and call a cab, Uber, take the bus or phone a sober friend to pick you up. This is a tactic amongst a robust marketing mix including radio, billboards, press, social media, flyers, posters, etc. Clean Graffiti is another “touch” point so that the brand message sticks in the brains of consumers in our overly-distracted society.

This “Public Communication” style of campaign is one of the ways that we love using our Clean Graffiti medium. It is for the good of the community. It can communicate to neighborhoods that may not have a large outdoor advertising option (aka no billboards, or bus ads to act as the reminder). It is eco-friendly (remember, it is just water!), and its creative and new so that it draws the attention of the consumer.

We look forward to spreading this message and safety messages like this to more places across the state and beyond.

Custom Moss Art wall for GoTriangle in Durham, NC. #thesavageway

We had the honor of creating some custom art for a company called GoTriangle. Their new headquarters is based in Durham, NC and they called us when they wanted to bring some green, creative artwork into the space. GoTriangle Moss Art was the perfect way to transform their company logo into beautiful, green interior decor.

GoTriangle provides public transportation for the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. This includes “regional bus and shuttle service, paratransit services, ridematching and vanpools; commuter resources and an emergency ride home program.” Learn more about their efforts to help commuters during a rapidly growing time in North Carolina.

The Artwork

The two pieces we created involved 4 colors of moss, 42 individual triangles, 2 walls, a traveling installer, and lots of love. In total, the two complete pieces covered a 6ft x 7ft wall and a 5ft x 7ft wall. From the start, the goal was to bring the GoTriangle logo to life. We looked at other marketing efforts they were making in the community in order to retain brand standards, but knew that there would be some restrictions on what we could do because we work with Moss – aka nature. However, the end result turned out not only on-brand, but looking awesome in the space.

The best part about these custom pieces is that we are able to provide a green element indoors without any maintenance. That means no need for a water source, drainage, a light source, or anyone to tend to the plants. By using preserved moss, we bring 100% real plants into a corporate office space and alleviate the headache.

To say that we are proud of this installation is an understatement. We were presented with a challenge and through ingenuity, we were able to create something that will stand the test of time. (Our team even had a little fun when installing the triangles – Check out this video. “They’re light green, they’re dark green, they’re lime green, they’re every color green”….. 🙂

Clean Graffiti for NoDa Yoga

Clean Graffiti NoDa Yoga

Clean Graffiti for NoDa Yoga in Charlotte, NC. #thesavageway

NoDa Yoga is one of those spaces that immediately brings you a sense of peace and calmness. Not only is it a yoga studio based in the historic arts district of NoDa in Charlotte, NC, but it is a safe and beautiful place to get lost in yourself and your yoga practice.

When NoDa Yoga approached us about doing some Clean Graffiti, we knew that we needed to get out a message that truly represented this studio. We attended some classes and soon realized that the quote that lives over their front desk would make the perfect Clean Graffiti message. “Get out of your head, and into your heart.” Simple. Meaningful.

After some fun design work, we came up with this lotus flower to accompany the quote, which is an homage to the two murals in their main space at 3201 N Davidson St (upstairs). These Clean Graffiti spots went down around the NoDa, Plaza Midwood, Villa Heights areas of Charlotte, NC.

We absolutely love how they turned out. And people are loving them too. Here are a sample of the Instagram posts that we’ve been tagged in.

NoDa Yoga utilized our eco-friendly sidewalk messaging in the perfect way. The reverse graffiti message / image is a core value that reverberates across the studio, every single teacher and NoDa Yoga’s online message. By tapping into this side of the studio (instead of a sales messaged), people were able to relate and appreciate the Clean Graffiti spots. They are inspiring and authentic to their brand.

Mammogram…The Other Screen You Need This Summer

Mammogram…The Other Screen You Need This Summer

Summer is here. That means no school, days at the pool, family vacation, and lots of time in the sun. We know you are protecting your skin with plenty of sunscreen, but summer is also a great time to schedule “the other screen you need”… a mammogram. That’s why we partnered with leading healthcare provider, Novant Health, on a multi-city Clean Graffiti campaign promoting mammograms.

Creative Marketing for Novant Health

“I stand for mammograms” creative message for Novant Health in Winston Salem, NC. #thesavageway

Novant Health understands that October is not the only month that breast health is of importance. Women can and should schedule their mammogram when it’s convenient for them – any time of year. This public health campaign is spreading such an important message about breast health. You can check out more about the importance of early breast cancer detection in this article from the American Cancer Society.

For the Clean Graffiti campaign, we travelled to three cities (Winston Salem, Salisbury, Huntersville) and five areas in Charlotte, NC (Uptown, Ballantyne, Southpark, Piper Glen, Arboreteum) to help spread this health initiative. We love the play on sunscreen and the hot southern summers that we have in Charlotte, NC.

Clean Graffiti is a unique element of a media buy for Novant Health because there is a social element that is involved. We try to create messages that will make people stop & smile. As a society, we are bombarded with thousands of images every single day. It’s overwhelming (and easy to tune things out). Our natural form of media is unexpected, eco-friendly and can often encourage people to post to their social media platform. It’s always nice to see people post about a campaign on Instagram, just like @mamfrancis did (see below).

We are thrilled to work with progressive companies who are able to tie in natural media into their overall company message. Our projects with Novant Health have been fun, educational and a new way for people to hear about this important health screening.
